After a series of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key, developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

The physical element of Space Key

Carbon fiber was 3D printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is connected to a unique, digital image via an QR code. Only five Space Keys were produced.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts hints, luxury car maker Lamborghini Keys finally revealed its first project involving tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). Called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by the unidentified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the "collector's item" is limited to only five units and will soon be auctioned off.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved using a QR code that links to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels make each of the five images, which were captured by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera to capture each of the individual shots, which were then merged into the final image. The result is an image that is completely out of the world. It captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic picture of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there's no precise date or location yet.
