In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. It scored highly on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a good job of removing pet hair, but it had a difficult time with extremely thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the best performing robots on our list despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model however it lacks all the fancy apps or smart robot vacuum home integration that you might find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready for use as soon as you are ready to. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, press its big "Clean" button and let it get to work. It will automatically return to the dock when it has run out of battery or is full of debris.
