After a string of social media posts suggesting it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. The project is dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unknown artist It is inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, dubbed the Space Key, is a piece that was developed in collaboration with a unknown artist. The unique NFT is a physical object which connects to a unique digital artwork accessible through an QR code printed on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini as part of a research project in the year 2019 was sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then transformed into a unique art work when it returned to Earth. The physical object is engraved with an NFT serial number that ties to the corresponding digital artwork with QR codes on the back.

NFTs, for those who are not familiar they are unique identifiers that are recorded on an open ledger on the blockchain and linked to an digital asset like a photograph, video, song or other record. This lets owners ensure the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for companies, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to the next level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about this exciting project, including the name of the unknown artist and a timetable for the auction.

The physical component of Space Key

Following a string of social media posts teasing something space-themed, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of tokens that are non-fungible (NFT) by launching an exclusive project called Space Key. Created in collaboration with an unknown artist, the NFT is a collector's piece that will be auctioned off within a few weeks time. The core of the NFT is a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is connected to a unique, digital artwork via QR codes. Only five Space Keys were produced.

NFTs are unique IDs that can be logged in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain, and linked to digital assets like images. They're all the rage among those with more money than sanity and it was only a matter of time until an automaker decided to capitalize on the trend.

Space Key consists of five units and was built using a real piece of the carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the ISS in 2019. Each NFT will be linked to an exclusive digital artwork by the same artist via an QR code that is located on the backside of the carbon fiber component. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed, including the name and digital artwork of the artist and how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After several weeks of posts on social media that hint at it, luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. Called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT created by the unidentified artist. The 'collectors piece' was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to just five units. It will be auctioned off soon.

Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth the Space Key was imprinted with a QR code, which connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the lamborghini key Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels each of the five images that were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera that captured each of the individual shots, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is an out-of-this world image that reveals the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the lambo car key rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the event hasn't been set yet.

The auction

The auctions will take place from February 1 through February 4. The auctions will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the amount of time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By registering online, you can bid on the five NFTs. Each NFT will be auctioned off separately and the winner will be awarded an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
