The app allows you to track your location and adjust ambient sound features based on your environment. The microphone is included for hands-free phone calls. The Sony WH1000XM5 plays music wirelessly through Bluetooth or audiophile wired with the cable included. They support aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive codecs that play high quality audio via Bluetooth.

Similar to the XM4 The WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable with a well-padded headband and ear cups. They are comfortable to wear and can be worn for long periods. They're also great for long flights and commutes. They're noise-cancelling headphones that reduce background noise without compromising clarity or clarity. The Sony WH-1000XM5 offer a decent amount of bass for a pair of closed back headphones and they provide a great soundstage, with an excellent separation of vocals and instruments.

The low latency is an enormous positive. The lag is so minimal that it's practically imperceptible and they are able to be used for casual games. They're not the ideal choice for competitive video games though and are a good choice for people who are using them for media consumption and to make calls that are hands-free.

Sony is committed to incorporating intelligent features into its products, and the WH1000XM5 is no different. The active noise cancellation is one of the best I've tried and they include a whole suite of smart functions to enhance the overall listening experience. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to near-high-resolution quality. They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology which streams audio with higher bitrates over Bluetooth (although not as high-quality as the headphone DAC that's dedicated).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones that are the PX7 S2 have been consistently on top lists of wireless headsets since the launch of the first-generation PX7 in the year 2015. This puts them in the same class as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose QuietComfort. The latest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the original headphones to a higher level, with improved ANC performance and a new design.

The bio-cellulose drivers of 40mm in the earcups have been angled so they are aimed directly at your eardrums. This gives you an experience with more intimacy unlike other closed-back headphones. It's a bold claim however, one that the PX7 S2 can deliver on. Vocals cut through clearly, and bass is deep and rumbly when it's needed to be.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well with voice calls, and has a crisp and clear sound that doesn't drown out your own voice. The PX7 S2 is also able to provide a quick charge, which can bring you back fully charged in just two hours. They also work with hi-res music, audiophile thanks to the aptX adaptive Bluetooth codesc that allow them to play 24-bit audio.

The noise-canceling technology as well as improved audio performance are the most important upgrades for most listeners. In our tests the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated aircraft cabin noise with astonishing efficiency, and they excelled when we played Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo voice, the wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

In addition to improved ANC Alongside improved ANC, the PX7 S2s have a number of other useful features that make them comparable with other top-rated noise cancelling headphones. They're fully wireless, with Bluetooth multipoint support so you can pair them with two devices at the same time, and they have a built-in microphone that allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. The construction is sturdy and high-end and will last for a long time.

Of course, they're not perfect. The clamp force of our test models were a bit more than we'd prefer, and there weren't as many app features as other models. However, these aren't major complaints. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that rivals other competitors in its class. It's hard to imagine a rival to match them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who value high-quality sound and are looking for a top-quality wireless noise cancelling headset, the Focal Bathys are difficult to beat. They're the French audio company's first-ever ANC headphones that utilize Bluetooth and they offer incredible sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected to the device via USB to enjoy hi-fi quality sound at up to 24 bit/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external sound with its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures that are reminiscent Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. The Bathys are constructed of premium materials like magnesium and aluminum, which makes them feel solid, comfortable, and well worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide an impressive, clear sound signature. They easily surpass consumer ANC devices of similar price such as the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. They can be improved further with direct DAC audio mode, making them an excellent choice for serious hi-fi enthusiasts.

Using the Focal and Naim app users can alter their headphone's playback controls as well as their virtual assistant and Bluetooth pairing preferences. Users can choose between quiet or soft intensities for ANC and alter the brightness of LEDs that are on the ear cups, and tweak EQ settings. The app is bare-bones but it has enough functionality to be worth the download.

The most notable flaw is that the active noise cancellation doesn't live up to the competition. The headphone isn't able to block out all the background noise as the most rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its quality of treble isn't as good, with a muddy mid - to high frequency that impedes the sound of instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys headphones aren't the most transportable. They're not suitable for travel due to their earcups don't fold and they weigh more than other models. They're ideal for a home environment where to buy wireless bluetooth headphones they can be used for long listening sessions or as an audio reference headphone for engineering purposes. The Bathys are comfortable to wear for long periods of time, despite their size and weight.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N is fantastic pair of wireless over ear headsets for the price. They come with a reliable noise-cancelling system that is capable of blocking out ambient noise, making them ideal for those who commute or travel. They also have an attractive design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their durable construction and attractive matte finish.

They have a similar design as Sony's more recent 1000X and XB910N headphones. They feature a slim plastic headband, with the standard hinges for audiophile the earcups. They're light and comfortable, however they're a bit tight for my taste. They come with a USB-C charge port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable included in the box. They allow multipoint Bluetooth pairing, meaning you can connect them to two devices simultaneously should you choose to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid tech for noise cancellation did an excellent job at reducing ambient noise. There were only a few small blips while walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers did not block every sound around them however, they struggled with lower frequency sounds like the engine rumbling sound of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was a breeze and displayed a minimal harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and found they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments well. It did an excellent job of taming bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix focused.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the CH720N's multipoint connectivity as well as ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also choose from a range of audio presets. You can also utilize the app to activate DSEE which can boost the quality of compressed content and enhances its sound quality.

The WH-CH720N isn't equipped with a few of Sony's primetime features when compared to the XM5 (such as Quick Attention and Speak-to-Chat) they do offer a solid feature set for PS130. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls, and DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing not available is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support, which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
