Sony's WH1000XM5 are a fantastic pair of headphones for those who want to use the best wireless over-ear headset. They're lightweight with a soft carrying case that folds flat for easy storage in your bag. The touch controls are intuitive and simple to use, and the battery lasts for 30 hours with no ANC. They also have an auto-pause feature which shuts off your headphones when they are removed from your head to conserve battery.

The WH1000XM5 can be used with Sony Headphones Connect, which includes a range of features that can be used to customize the audio experience. The app allows you to track location and customize ambient sound features based on your surroundings. The microphone is also integrated for hands-free calls. The Sony WH1000XM5 plays music wirelessly using bluetooth stereo headphones or wired via the cable included. They can support aptX, HD aptX and aptX Adaptive to deliver high quality audio over Bluetooth.

Like the XM4 The WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable, with a well-padded headband and ear cups. These headphones are comfortable to wear and can be worn for extended periods of time. They are also ideal for long commutes and flights. They have good noise canceling performance that blocks out most background noise, but without sacrificing clarity and detail. The Sony WH-1000XM5 have decent bass for a pair of closed-back headphones. They offer an excellent soundstage with the clear separation of vocals and instruments.

They have a low latency for watching videos, which is a benefit. The lag is so minimal that it's barely noticeable, and they can also be used for casual gaming. They're not the best for gaming in a competitive manner but they're excellent for those who wish to utilize them for media consumption or to make hands-free calls.

Sony is dedicated to incorporating smart features into its products and the WH1000XM5 model is no exception. The active noise cancellation feature was one of the best that I've tried and they offer a whole range of clever features that will enhance your listening experience. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to near-hi-res quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate music over Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones which is the PX7 S2 have always been on top wireless headset lists since the launch of the first-generation PX7 in the year 2015. They are in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose's QuietComfort. The latest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the first headphones to a new level, with better ANC performance as well as a fresh design.

The 40mm bio-cellulose drivers in the earcups are angled so that they directly hit your eardrums. This gives you an experience with more intimacy unlike other closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 is a perfect example of the bold claim. The vocals are clear and the bass is deep when needed.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well with voice calls, and has a crisp and clear audio that doesn't overpower your own voice. They also come with a quick charge that can get you back to full power in just two hours. Furthermore, they're compatible with hi-res audio, thanks to an aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec that allows them to play 24-bit music.

For the majority of listeners, however, the most important upgrade is the enhanced noise-canceling and audio performance. In our tests, we were able to eliminate nearly all of the simulated aircraft noises with the PX7 S2. They also excelled in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus which provide an excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo vocal, wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

As well as in addition to ANC, in addition to improved ANC, PX7 S2s have a number of other useful features that make them very competitive with other top-rated noise-canceling headphones. They're completely wireless and feature Bluetooth multipoint support, so you can pair two devices simultaneously. They also have built-in microphones that allows for hands-free calls with your phone assistant. They're also incredibly robust, with premium-feeling and durably-built construction that should last for years of continuous use.

Of course they're not the perfect models. The clamp force of the models we tested were a little more than we'd like and there weren't as many app features as the other options. However, these aren't big concerns. The PX7 S2s is a fantastic wireless headset that rivals other models in its class. It's difficult to imagine a rival that can beat them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal Bathys is the ideal option for audiophiles who value high-quality sound and are looking for headphones that can be used wirelessly to block out noise. The Focal Bathys are the first ANC headphones made by an French audio manufacturer to utilize Bluetooth. They deliver stunning sound both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device for true hi-fi listening with up to 24 bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures like Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also feature premium materials like magnesium and aluminum for solid construction that is comfortable, solid, and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode when Bluetooth is enabled, the Bathys offer a clear and lively sound quality that easily beats similar priced consumer ANC alternatives like the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode lets them be pushed further and makes them an excellent option for true hifi listeners.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to adjust the playback controls of the headphone and Bluetooth pairing preferences. You can select between quiet or soft intensities for ANC and adjust the brightness of the LEDs on the earcups, and alter the settings for EQ. The app is basic but it has enough features to warrant its purchase.

The only significant flaw is that the active noise cancellation doesn't quite match the quality of the competitors. The headphone doesn't eliminate all ambient noise as well as the highly rated XM5 and AirPods Max. Its treble accuracy is also a bit off and has a muddy high to mid range that blocks the sound of instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys headphones aren't the most transportable. They are not suitable for travel due to their ear cups don't fold, and they weigh more than other headphones. The Bathys are best used at home for long listening sessions or as an audio reference headset for sound engineering. The Bathys are comfortable to wear for long periods of time, despite their size and weight.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N is great pair of wireless over ear headsets for the price. They feature a great noise-cancelling system that does a great job of quelling ambient noise, making them ideal for those who commute or travel. They also add a nice touch of premium quality with their sturdy construction and appealing matte finish.

They are similar in design to Sony's newer 1000X and XB910N headphones. They sport a slim headband with the standard earcup hinges and a sturdy plastic construction. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear, although they feel a bit too compressed for my taste. They have a USB-C charging port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable included in the box. They are multipoint Bluetooth which means you can connect to two devices at once if you want.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did a fantastic job of reducing ambient noise. There were only a few blips when walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers did not block every sound around them however, they struggled with low-frequency sounds such as the rumbling engine sounds of buses and trains.

Streaming music through the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and exhibited a low level of harmonic distortion. I tried a range of genres and found they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did an excellent job of taming the bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix in focus.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your liking and wireless and Bluetooth headphones also include a variety of audio presets. You can also enable DSEE via the app, which enhances audio quality and speeds up the removal of compressed audio files.

The WH-CH720N is a good value for PS130. It lacks some of Sony's top features (such as Speak-toChat and Quick Attention) however, it does come with numerous excellent features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and the DSEE upscaling are all present. The only thing not included is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support which I believe would have been a great inclusion.
