Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S is among the cheapest self-emptying robot vacuums available. It was able to efficiently remove dry oatmeal from hard floors and carpets with low pile in our tests. Its dustbin is easy to open and empty -much easier than some other models in its price range.

It charges at its base, and then resumes cleaning as soon as it's ready. Its obstacle-avoidance tech gets tangled in socks and cords and it is unable to reach thresholds that are low.

1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is one of the cheapest self-emptying robots and lots of people seem to like it. It is great at getting under furniture and is a good choice for those with hard floors or who do a lot of cleaning. The suction might be a little weaker than our top picks, but it gets the job completed. It also has a large dirt bin and a battery which lasts for over an hour. The app allows you to schedule your daily cleaning chores or choose a particular room. It's also possible to map out your home, which can aid in avoiding areas you don't want to visit.

The app is simple to use and has a clear layout. It's not an app with a lot of features however, it's simple to use and lets you monitor your robot's status. It comes with a tutorial that will guide you through the basics.

The pattern of cleaning doesn't always look like logical - at times it is straight lines, while other times it seeks out the edges of a room - but Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor gets cleaned. It's not the most adept at navigating obstacles, however - it was unable to climb over our piano pedals as well as pet food bowls, and was tangled up in our 2.25-inch shag rug several times.

While it's a great option for light daily cleanings, we think there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba is much easier to maintain, has lower recurring costs and self-emptying robot vacuum for pets charges faster. It has a bigger bin, performs better on any surface type and is able to climb over obstacles that are low in elevation (like electrical cables) more easily.

The RoboVac 11S from Eufy is another alternative for regular vacuuming. It's design is very similar to our top choice, and is excellent at picking up small particles and dirt on hard floors. It also does a decent job on medium and low-pile carpet. Similar to the Roomba from iRobot Roomba it also has a huge dirt compartment, and it uses BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It also has a remote control that's easy to use, and you can program daily cleanings using the app. The battery can last for about an hour and the dustbin can be easily empty by removing it from its dock.

2. Roborock S7 maxV Ultra

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra robot mop and vacuum is a fantastic robot that comes with a an array of amazing automated features. It comes in three options including the standard S7, the S7 MaxV Plus and the S7 MaxV Ultra. Only the latter comes with an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot self emptying vacuum to return to its base, empty the collected debris in a dust bag, or reservoir, drain the dirty water tank, and wash its mopping pads.

Sensors on the S7 work together to clean and avoid obstacles. It can identify the types of floors and save a map of rooms and zones and even detect levels of dirt. It's also capable of scheduling and running spot-cleaning sessions. It performed well in our standard tests, though it couldn't quite match the iRobot Roomba j7+ in the carpet deep clean test.

You can program the S7 with the companion app to run a cleaning cycle according to your schedule. You can choose a time either day or week as well as choose among a range of cleaning modes such as automatic, eco, and deep clean. You can also choose whether the robot should stop if it is running out of power or comes across an obstacle.

If you don't own a smartphone but you can still use the S7 by connecting a remote to the dock that charges it. The remote controls are a little confusing, but once you've got the hang of them, they function well. The power button also acts as an 'Cleaning' button and the Spot Clean button directs the robot to clean an area around it. The 'Spot Clean" button also activates the child lock.

Roborock's mobile application has been enhanced to include a live-view function that lets you see what the S7 does at home. You can activate it by pressing a specific sequence of buttons on your S7 and then creating an unlock pattern within the mobile app, which you can use whenever you wish to see what the S7 is doing.

3. Shark IQ SX

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as a hit as those from iRobot or Roborock. But our hands-on tests have shown that Shark's model is among the most effective self-emptying vacuums available. It's easy to set up and comes with a large bin which can be easily emptied (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once it is full. It can also be programmed to sweep the entire home on a regular basis.

The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and allows you to monitor it from the Shark app and view its battery level as it cleans. The app lets you set up a cleaning routine and receive push notifications about its status in cleaning, pause it and then clean up, or set it for one specific area. You can also control it using voice commands with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will tell you which power mode is currently selected such as Eco Normal, Maximum, or Normal - however, we discovered that none of these modes produced any significant difference in the cleaning performance.

Once it finishes cleaning when it's finished, the IQ XL automatically empties the bin into its base, and it self-empties. The bin can store up to 60 days of debris, meaning you won't have to empty it more than once, unless your pets have hair that is long. If you do have to empty it, all you have to do is untie the side bin, hold it up to a trash can and press a button to eject its contents.

There isn't much to dislike about the Shark IQ XL, although it does feel slightly less robust than the Roomba 694. It is able to remove a lot of debris on bare flooring and does a decent job of maneuvering itself, but it doesn't come close to matching the iRobot Roomba i7 in regards to performance on carpeted surfaces. The i7 also feels more sturdy, is more durable, requires less maintenance, has lower recurring costs and charges faster and has comparable battery performance. It also has more advanced features for automation, like areas that are not accessible and the ability to select specific rooms to be cleaned.

iRobot j7+

This robot vac and mop combo is a rare beast that does both jobs well. iRobot's Combo J7+ comes with all the advantages of its j7 counterpart including LiDAR mapping and self-emptying, but with additional features for both vacuuming and mopping.

The j7+ utilizes the new acoustic sensor to determine the type of floor, so that it can vacuum or mop the room on its first pass. This information can also be used to determine the best cleaning options for rooms that have carpets and carpets versus rooms with hard flooring.

Like most robotic vacuums, the j7+ is quiet while it's running. It's much quieter when mopping. Its maximum reading on our decibel meter was 64db which is similar to the background noise of office chatter.

It's simple to set an appointment to clean and alter the way that the j7+ operates when its dust container is full. The j7+ can be controlled by voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app lets you create and view maps in your home.

In our tests, we found that the j7+ performed admirably on both hard and carpeted flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we tossed at it. It isn't able to deal dealing with pet hair, large debris and sand. But it is able to clean them with a little more effort. It has good navigational abilities and two cliff sensors that keep it from falling down stairs or becoming stuck on furniture legs.

The j7+ has a few small flaws, namely that it could get stuck on cords or rugs and does not always turn off the mopping function when it is done vacuuming. This is a great model that checks all the boxes.

iRobot's j7+ also has one of the best Self-emptying robot Vacuum for pets systems that we've tested. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station, where it automatically emptys itself for you. This reduces the amount of garbage you have to get rid of. It is only necessary to change the dust disposal bag at the dock once every 60 days, depending on how often you use the J7+.
