The WH-1000XM5 sports a similar headband and earcups to the XM4 however it is lighter and more comfortable. They are comfortable to wear and can be worn for extended periods. They are also ideal for long flights and commutes. They're noise cancelling headphones that reduce background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones offer plenty of bass, especially for closed-back headphones. They also offer an impressive soundstage and clear separation between vocals and instruments.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide crisp, vibrant sound quality. They easily outperform consumer ANC devices of similar price like the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode lets them be pushed further, making them a great option for true hifi listeners.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to alter the playback controls of the headphone and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app allows users to select between silent and soft intensities for ANC. Users can also adjust the brightness of LEDs on the ear cups of the headphones, as well as tweak EQ settings. The app is basic but it has enough features to warrant its purchase.

The only significant flaw is that the active noise cancellation does not match the quality of the competitors. They have a similar design to Sony's more recent 1000X and XB910N headphones. They have a slim, plastic headband, with the standard ear cups hinges. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear, although they're a bit tight for my taste. In the box, they include a USB-C port for charging, the 3.5mm connector, and a decent-length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means that you can connect two devices at the same time should you wish to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did an excellent job of reducing ambient sound. There were only a few glitches while walking around Waterloo Station and London Victoria. These weren't magical sound-silencers which zapped every single nearby sound however, and they struggled with lower-frequency noises such as the rumbling engine noises of buses and trains.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was a breeze and displayed a minimal harmonic distortion. I tried a range of different genres and found they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments very well. It did a great job of taming the bass in rock tracks while keeping the focus of the mix.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the CH720N's multipoint connectivity and ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also add a variety of audio presets. You can also activate DSEE through the app, which enhances sound quality and upsacles compressed audio content.

While the WH-CH720N does not have some of Sony's primetime features compared to the XM5 (such as Speak-to -Chat and Quick Attention) they do come with a solid feature set for PS130. You can access 360 Reality Audio and a range of smart controls, and the aforementioned DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support, which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
