The Shark IQ XL is a good vacuum cleaner. It does a decent job of cleaning bare floors and can move well. However the Shark IQ XL feels a slightly less sturdy than the Roomba 694. It's good in cleaning carpeted floors but doesn't match the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 is also built better and feels more durable and robust, has less demanding maintenance requirements, has lower recurring costs, charges faster, while offering similar battery performance, and offers far more advanced automation features such as no-go zones and the capability to pick specific rooms for a clean.

4. iRobot J7+

This robot vac and mop combination is a rare machine that can perform both tasks efficiently. IRobot's Combo j7+ offers all the features of its j7 counterpart including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping but with additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors aid the j7+ recognize flooring types, meaning it can choose between mopping and vacuuming when it first enters a room. It also uses this info to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpets and rugs over those with hard floors.

The J7+ is more quiet than the majority of robotic vacuums when running and is even quieter when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64db on our decibel meter is comparable to general office chatter.

It's easy to set a schedule for cleaning and change the way that the j7+ operates when its dust container is full. The j7+ can be controlled by voice assistants, such as Alexa, Google Assistant and other. for a hands-free approach and the app lets you create and explore maps of your home.

In our tests, the J7+ performed admirably on both hard and carpeted floors, and it cleaned up most of the dirt we threw at it. It has some issues with pet hair and larger debris such as sand, but it can remove these items with a little extra effort. It also has decent navigation abilities and a set of cliff sensors to prevent it from plunging down a flight of stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did discover a couple of small niggles with the j7+. These include that it can snag on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always shut off its mopping when it's finished vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent model that checks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also comes with one of the top self-emptying systems we've seen. It puts its 14oz 0.4-liter dust container into the base station where it will automatically empty itself for you. This helps reduce the amount of garbage you'll need to dispose of and you'll only need to replace the dust bag that is on the dock about every 60 days or so, depending on how often you use the J7+.
