This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around the room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a good job of picking up pet hair, but it struggled with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

Despite these minor shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our best robot vacuum and mop combo-performing robots, and it's not even close to being as expensive as some of the other top-of-the-line models in this list. It's got plenty of features we'd expect to find in a flagship model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration you'll find in other top contenders.
