Like the XM4, the WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable, with well-padded headbands and ear cups. They are comfortable to wear and are suitable for extended periods. They're also great for long commutes and flights. They feature excellent noise canceling performance that eliminates most background noise, but without sacrificing clarity and clarity. The Sony WH-1000XM5 offer a decent amount of bass for closed-back headphones. They also offer an excellent soundstage with a clear separation of instruments and vocals.

They have a low latency when watching videos, which is a plus. The lag is so tiny that it's almost invisible, and they can also be used to play casual games. These are not the best for video gaming competitively but they're excellent for those who wish to utilize them for entertainment or for making hands-free calls.

Sony is adamant about including smart features into its products and the WH-1000XM5 are no exception. The active noise cancellation is among the most effective I've ever tried, and they come with a range of smart functions that enhance the overall listening experience. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to a near-hi-res format. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate music over Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones which is the PX7 S2, have consistently appeared on top wireless headset lists since the release of the first-generation PX7, in 2015. This puts them in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose's QuietComfort. The PX7 S2 is the latest version that takes the first generation of headphones up a notch with a boost in ANC performance as well as a new appearance.

In the earcups, the 40mm bio cellulose drivers are bent to point straight at your eardrums to deliver an audio experience that's more intimate than many other closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 does not disappoint in the bold claim. Vocals are clear and clear and bass is rich and rumbly when it needs to be.

The PX7 S2 is also very adept at making voice calls. It has a clear, clear sound that does not drown out your voice. They also offer a quick charge that gets you back to full power in just two hours. Furthermore, they're compatible with hi-res audio, thanks to an aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec that allows the playback of 24-bit music.

The noise-canceling technology as well as improved audio quality are the most important upgrades for the majority of listeners. In our tests the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated cabin noise with astonishing efficiency and performed exceptionally when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent insight into the dynamic shifts between the solo voice, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

The PX7 S2s are not only noise-cancelling, they also include a variety of features that make them competitive with other top-rated headphones. They're fully wireless, with Bluetooth multipoint support so you can connect two devices simultaneously They also include a built-in microphone which allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. The construction is sturdy and top-quality and will last for many years.

Of course they're not 100% perfect. The clamp force of the models we tested were slightly higher than we would have liked and there weren't as many app features as other options. However, these aren't major concerns. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that is able to compete with other headsets in its class. It's hard to imagine a competitor beating them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who prize high-fidelity and are searching for an exceptional wireless noise-canceling headset, the Focal Bathys are tough to beat. They're the French audio company's first ANC headphones that use Bluetooth and they offer incredible sound in both Bluetooth mode and when connected to the device via USB for true hi-fi listening at up to 24 bit/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external sound with its closed ear cups).

The Bathys look gorgeous with their black glossy finish and swooping curves similar to Focal's premium open-back Elear and closed-back Celestee blutooth headphones. The Bathys are built with premium materials like magnesium and aluminum, which make them feel durable and comfortable. They are also worth the cost.

In Bluetooth mode in Bluetooth mode, the Bathys deliver a crisp and vibrant sound that easily beats similar priced consumer ANC options such as the Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode allows them to be pushed further which makes them a fantastic option for those who love hifi.

With the Focal & Naim app, users can adjust the playback controls of their headphones, virtual assistant, and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app lets users choose between quiet and soft intensities for ANC. They can also alter the brightness of the LEDs on the ear cups of the headphones, as well as adjust the EQ settings. The app is not complete but it has enough features to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only drawback is the active noise cancellation, wireless Headphones bluetooth which doesn't live up to the competition. The headphone doesn't eliminate any ambient noise as well as the top-rated XM5 and AirPods Max. Its treble accuracy is also a bit off with a muffled mid to high range that blocks the instruments and vocals.

Their matte finish and robust construction give them a touch of luxury.

They look similar to Sony's 1000X and XB910N headphone models. They sport a slim, plastic headband that has the typical hinges for the earcups. They're light and comfortable to wear, but they feel a little too tight for my taste. In the box, they have a USB-C port for charging and an 3.5mm connector and a decent-length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means you can connect to two devices simultaneously should you wish to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did an excellent job of reducing ambient sound. There were only a few noticeable small blips while walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. They weren't magic sound-silencers that destroyed every sound in the vicinity however, they struggled with lower-frequency sounds like the rumbling engine noise of trains and buses.

Streaming music over the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tried a range of different genres and found they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments well. It did an excellent job of controlling the bass in rock tracks while keeping the mix in focus.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your liking and also add a variety of audio presets. You can also use the app to activate DSEE which can boost the quality of compressed content and improves its sound quality.

The WH-CH720N isn't equipped with a few of Sony's primetime features compared to the XM5 (such as Quick Attention and Speak-to-Chat) they do offer an impressive set of features for PS130. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and DSEE upscaling are all present. The only thing that's missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support, which I think would have been a welcomed inclusion.
