In our tests it was able to avoid getting stuck on power cords, long curtains and even dog toys. It's not perfect and sometimes it gets stuck on things such as unruly toys, tangled cables or books.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone application, and this is where you'll find all the sophisticated features that distinguish it from other robotic vacuums and mop. These include room-specific cleaning and mopping settings, a time planner mopping and vacuuming power strengths, Robotic vacuum cleaner self emptying and integrations with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for smart home integration. The extensive features set means the S7 Max Ultra can do almost anything a standard robot vacuum does but at less than half the price.

The S7 Max Ultra's vacuuming is impressive and it did a very great job of picking up dirt, pet hair and other debris on both carpet and hard floors. Its automatic dust bin-emptying feature performed perfectly during our tests, which was very and reassuring. It also boasts 5100 Pa HyperForce suction rating, which is considerably higher than the 2,500Pa performance of the S6 MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra mopping performance was also satisfactory, but not the most efficient. It employed microfiber mops that absorb liquids, and sonic vibration technology to scrub floors with up to 3000 revolutions per minute. This was a bit quicker than the X1 Omni circular pads, which rotate at 180 rotations per minute. The S7 Max Ultra’s ReactiveAI 2.0 obstruction recognition system is excellent. In our tests, it never got stuck on anything and avoided power cords, curtains and other potential obstructions 100% of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

It is an activity that is hated by many, yet it is essential to keep your home tidy. It's also a messy and frequently unpleasant task that can be difficult to accomplish since it requires cleaning up the dustbins and water, and ensuring that debris or hair doesn't clog the brushes or traps. This is why mopping and vacuuming robots are so popular. Many of these devices require you to empty the dustbin and wash and rinsing the mop pads manually. This can be a hassle, particularly if you need to do this several times in between cleaning sessions. We're pleased to learn that some manufacturers are introducing self emptying robots that make this process much easier.

The Freo also detects levels of dirtiness and automatically cleans its mop once it is full, which increases the effectiveness of subsequent cleaning sessions by not returning to areas that are soiled.

The Freo is also a step up from its predecessor in that it is controlled directly by the LCD touchscreen on its base station. This is in addition to the app for smartphones. This is a first for robotic vacuum cleaner self emptying a robot vacuum and mop combination and is definitely a welcome change if you'd rather skip the hassle of using the app. You can even optimize the route during a session using the controls on the LCD screen. You can also ensure that the robot is doing exactly what you would like it to accomplish.

The Narwal Freo is also quiet when in suction mode, with a noise level of only 63dB. Despite this, maintenance on the Freo isn't a breeze as you'll need to regularly clean various components, such as the primary brush roll and side brushes.

3. Ecovacs Deebot T9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ (available at The Good Guys for $1279) is one of the most efficient self emptying vacuum-emptying robot vacuum and mop combos on the market. It is capable of mapping your home, cleaning and mopping, as well as detecting and avoid obstacles. It can even spray an air freshener.

It's easy to set up, using the app to create an accurate map of your home that it uses while cleaning. The app lets you choose specific rooms or areas that need to be cleaned. You can also select the time you would like to begin cleaning, so that your floors get cleaned while you're asleep or away.

In our tests we observed the T9+ to be exceptionally adept in navigating around obstacles. It is known to take a slightly manic route around the home. This often meant that it ended up in the exact location where it began cleaning moments earlier. It wasn't a lot of times however enough to warrant being noticed.

The T9+ comes with a variety of accessories including the robotic cleaner itself, a docking station, and an auto-empty station. The mopping module and the dust bin replacement are sold separately.

The Deebot T9+ can sweep and vacuum at the same time. Your floor will appear just as nice as it was when you first purchased it. The disposable mopping pads are simple to attach, and the microfiber fabric effectively traps dust, blocks off stains and does not leave residue. The huge 2.5L auto-empty stations can store up to 30 days worth of debris, and not leak. This makes it easy to keep the home clean with minimal effort. The T9+ features an upgraded 3000Pa motor that provides powerful suction to achieve an efficient cleaning.

4. iRobot Combo j7+

The iRobot Combo j7+ is an excellent robot to clean floors. It's a mop and a vacuum all in one, and it also has obstacle avoidance and home navigation. It can map your home and clean areas without bumping into walls or furniture. It's also easy to make use of the app to define zones for areas that should be cleaned, or areas that you'd like to keep clear of and set up specific no-mop or no-sweep limits.

It also works with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa which means you can tell it to start a cleaning run by voice. The only downside I found was that the Combo j7+'s smaller water tank means you have to refill it often, or else limit its cleaning to smaller areas and run it in eco-mode more often.

The Combo J7+ has small dust bins that you must empty manually. The Combo mop pads are also less effective than other brands. This is a pity since this model is otherwise excellent.
