Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it using a smartphone application.

First, place the fob on an even surface, with the logo side facing upwards. Find the button that releases it, then wedge a coin between the fob and the cover and then pull it up with care.

Unlocking the Doors

Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards, and unlock or lock the manual lock. Locate the black button that is on the outside of the body of the key fob and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. This cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.

The Engine is Ready to Start

Switching off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more useful than a traditional car key. However, they don't work in a perfect way for a long time, and their batteries can eventually die. It is possible to program your key fob at your home if you are in a rush or don't have the time to go to the shop.

Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery and any other keys. Locate the small black button in the lower left corner of the key fob, then slide it to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off, revealing the mechanical key blade underneath.

The key fob's unlock button two times quickly, and you will be able to unlock all of the doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you can also close the sunroof and windows when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't then the owner's manual must include a reset method.
