The result is an earbud that is top-of-the-line in performance but also feels luxurious and sturdy. Focal reduced the size and weight of its higher-end headphones to make them more portable but still utilizing magnesium for the yokes. The design is sleek and stylish with an elongated, "skeletonised", design similar to Focal's premium Focal celestee headphones. LED backlit Focal logos are on the side of the headphone and actually glow.

The ear cups fold flat for convenient storage and the cable can be detached to be used with other devices without Bluetooth, such as many cell phones. The earcups fold flat for easy storage, and the cable is detachable for use with other devices that lack Bluetooth like a lot of cell phones.

For those who are serious about audio The headphones can be used in DAC mode, which eliminates the internal processing and delivers superior sound quality than the majority of Bluetooth headphones with their built-in DAC. Focal declined to reveal the specific DAC they used, but when tested with a high-quality portable DAC/headphone amp, the Bathys delivered great results--including better-than-CD-quality resolution, tight bass, and an open, airy midrange.

The Focal Bathys are designed to be used in planes and other noisy environments however, the DAC mode makes them suitable for more attentive listening. The majority of portable headphones are closed-back and tuned to boost bass but the Bathys offer an unbalanced, neutral sound that is well-suited to rock and other popular genres without being overly loud. The headphones are of decent audio quality, especially given their low cost. They don't have lush midranges like some more expensive headphones, but they do have good overall detail at most volumes. The bass is powerful and punchy, while the highs are a bit dispersed but aren't too loud. They are great for rock and pop but might not be the ideal choice for genres with full, anc headphones over ear deep bass.

Comparing to the previous version of these headphones, the Riff Wireless 2 have more features. They have a neutral sound profile which might appeal to some users. These headphones are good but they don't provide the same level comfort like other Skullcandy products like the Hesh 3 Wireless. The design is restricted by Razer standards: no RGB lighting or trademark green accents and the Tri-Snake logo is not to be seen. The headset is a lot like any other Bluetooth headphone, with semicircle swivel hinges that fold flat and slide over the earcups to create an adjustable, comfortable headband. They're also lighter and portable than most gaming headsets, with a weight of just 265g when collapsed.

Onboard controls can be found on the right earcup with track and power buttons as well as a recessed, multi-function button that doubles as an active noise-cancellation cycle button. The controls were responsive and easy to use. They functioned as advertised during my tests.

The Opus bass is a punchy, well-rounded sound with depth and clarity that you won't get from many budget headphones. It's not quite as full as Bose's Extra Bass headphones, but it still exceeds expectations for headphones in the $200 price tag. The mids are a solid sound and vocals and lead instruments can be heard clearly with good clarity. I did notice a slight veiledness in the highs but switching the EQ to Vocal fixed the problem.

In the case that you carry, you'll also find the 3.5mm audio cable and USB C-to-A converter and an ordinary airplane audio plug for those who haven't made the switch yet. It's a small but welcome feature that makes it easier to use headphones while traveling.

The Opus was a success, just like other THX certified products. I was able walk around town without having raise the volume to block out ambient sound and I never felt as if I needed to turn the volume of my music up just to hear it. This is the type of sound quality that will allow you to keep your hearing intact from excessive exposure to high-frequency frequency.
