1. iRobot S8

It comes with a variety of other features that make it an excellent option for most homes, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that utilizes both a camera and processor-powered smarts to see obstacles. It rarely gets derailed or trapped during a cleaning cycle and is the best at avoiding power cables as well as other objects in my tests. However, it isn't as reliable at detecting pet waste and other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy owned by Anker It has become a household name in the world of robots that are budget-friendly vacuums. However, it didn't offer a model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of features that are advanced and can compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with the X8 is its laser navigation. The X8 uses the laser mapping system, which is more accurate than the previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to construct an accurate map of your home and can store multiple maps, which is ideal for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are adept at securing edges and corners despite being circular. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is a good option for spills that aren't too big, you can't regulate the amount of water it uses which can limit its effectiveness on more severe stains. It's effective at picking up hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, effective appliances. It is a stunning design, a great navigation system, and excellent cleaning power. However, it does have some operational hiccups that keep it from ranking as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot and models, the RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses the LIDAR sensor to map out the space and a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once the room is mapped, the app lets you designate virtual no-go zones and favorite sections that the robot will automatically clean. You can also manually change cleaning modes, initiate an automatic clean, or view a live feed of the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors are effective, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping abilities are excellent, taking away surface debris from medium pile carpeting as well as embedded dust on bare floors. However, it's not exactly the most flexible robot available. It's not the best climber and has issues with metal threshold transition strips.

4. Shark ION

This budget robot looks like your typical robot but it's an upgrade in performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2-D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It's even able to spot common obstructions such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the best robot vacuum cleaner vacuum off stairs makes it one of our most agile vacuums.

It was able to climb over carpets with thick shags and was not stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). The controls are more basic than the competition's. There is a cleaning button at the top and you can start it using the app or voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, mopping and vacuuming create no-go zones and check its cleaning history. Ion is clad in a sophisticated dark gray plastic that feels and looks beautiful in your home. The rear dust bin is easy to access for emptying and removing the filter is the same.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills at a reasonable cost, the Eufy 11S is a great option. The model isn't equipped with smart features like Alexa integration and digital mapping that are found in more expensive models. However, if you don't require these functions, you can save money.

This robot is very easy to setup and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with a remote control which lets you select between different modes and adjust suction levels. It also allows you to manually take the robovac off during scheduled cleaning.

In our tests during our tests, the 11S was extremely efficient in getting rid of pet hair and dirt on hard floors and in carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile helped it get under furniture and other objects that more bulkier robots were unable to reach. It was also able to pass over doorway thresholds and change from one type of floor to another.

The 11S, as with other robots will also suckup some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can avoid this by keeping such objects off the floor and by using a cord organizer if possible. It also recommends that you regularly clean the dustbin, replace the filters and change or wash the brushes as required.

Roomba 990 from iRobot

The Roomba is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigation as well as environmental mapping is something to behold. It has more advanced automation than the majority of its rivals, for instance the capability to set up virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. It's a powerful robot vacuum, even though its app is a bit sluggish and the 980 spins when rolling over cables.

We love the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to store your home's floor plan.
