You can also design a map to clean your home at any time. The robot is also able to maneuver around furniture and can traverse stairs and carpeted rooms effortlessly.

I tried the ION XL using our standard debris test in a family room and kitchen with hardwood flooring and area rug. It did an excellent job cleaning up pet hair and debris from the floors, and picked up some of the more difficult dust particles on carpets. It was also very good at moving around my bar stool and didn't get in the way of them as the iRobot j7+ did in this test. The only drawback is that the IONXL cannot detect toys, cords or shoes in its path, so you will have to clean your home prior to running this robot vacuum to avoid these items.

The ION XL may not be as sophisticated as the iRobot j7+, but it is a good alternative if you don't wish to spend more than $500 on an automated cleaner. It's better than the less expensive RoboVac 11S in most ways and is easier to maintain and incurring lower recurring costs. It's also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and picking up pet fur, but not as effective on carpets with a low or carpets with higher pile.

It is also not as sturdy as the Roborock S8, but it is still a solid alternative. The ION XL has a large bin capacity, it is controlled via an app and voice commands, and it is easy to keep up with routine maintenance. It's also a great price.
