They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology that streams audio with higher bitrates over bluetooth headphones wireless headphones (although not as hi-res as an DAC for headphones that is dedicated to headphone use).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the release of the first generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have frequently included on the top lists of wireless headsets which puts them in the same bracket as the likes of Sony WH-1000XM5 as well as Bose QuietComfort. They also come with built-in microphones that allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. They're also extremely durable, with a premium-feeling and robustly-constructed construction that can last for years of regular usage.

They're not perfect, of course. The clamp force on our test models was a little tighter than we'd prefer and there aren't as many extra features on the app as other models, but these aren't major issues. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that rivals other models in its class. It's hard to imagine a rival beating them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

They're the French audio company's first ANC bt headphones wireless that use Bluetooth and offer amazing sound in both Bluetooth mode and when connected to an device via USB for hi-fi audio at up to 24 bit/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external sound through its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are stunning, with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures that are like Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. The Bathys are built with premium materials such as magnesium and aluminum that makes them feel solid, comfortable, and well worth the cost.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide a crisp, lively sound signature. They easily surpass consumer ANC devices with similar prices such as the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. They can be enhanced further with direct DAC audio mode which makes them an excellent choice for true hi-fi listeners.

Using the Focal and Naim app users can change their headphone's playback controls as well as their virtual assistant and Bluetooth pairing preferences. They can choose between soft or silent intensities for ANC as well as alter the brightness of LEDs that are on the ear cups, and adjust the settings for EQ. The app isn't complete however it provides enough functionality to warrant the download.

They follow a similar design to Sony's newer 1000X and XB910N headphones. They have a slim headband with the usual ear cup hinges and a sturdy plastic build. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear, although they feel a bit too compressed for my taste. They have a USB-C charging port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable inside the box. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means that you can connect two devices at the same time if you want.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid noise-cancelling tech did well in reducing background noise, with just a couple of noticeable blips in walking around Waterloo station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers weren't able to block every sound in the vicinity, but they did struggle with low-frequency sounds such as the engine rumbling sound of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was a breeze and showed a low level harmonic distortion. I tried a range of genres and discovered they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did a great job of taming the bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix focused.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows users to modify the CH720N's multipoint connectivity as well as ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also choose from a range of audio presets. You can also use the app to activate DSEE, which upsacles compressed content and improves the audio quality.

The WH-CH720N is an excellent value for PS130. It's not equipped with many of Sony's top features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Fast Attention) but it has a lot of excellent features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and the DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing not included is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
