The Sony WH1000XM5 plays music wirelessly through Bluetooth or wired via the cable that comes with. They can support aptX, HD aptX and aptX Adaptive codecs to provide high-quality audio via Bluetooth.

The WH-1000XM5 comes with a similar headband and ear cups to the XM4 however it is more lightweight and comfortable. They are comfortable to wear and are suitable for extended periods of time. They are also ideal for long commutes and flights. They're noise-cancelling headphones that can reduce background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 has an adequate amount of bass for a pair of closed-back headphones. They also provide a great soundstage, with an excellent separation of vocals and instruments.

They have a very low latency when watching videos which is a benefit. The lag is so tiny that it's almost invisible, and they can also be used to play casual games. They're not the best for video gaming competitively however they're perfect for those who wish to utilize them for media consumption or to make hands-free calls.

Sony is committed to infusing smart features into their products and the WH-1000XM5 are not a different. The active noise cancellation feature was one of the most effective I've ever used, and they come with an array of smart features to improve your listening experience. They also come with Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to near hi-res quality. They're also compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate audio over Bluetooth (although not as hi-res as a dedicated headphone DAC).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the introduction of its first-generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have frequently featured on top lists of wireless headsets and putting them in the same class as the likes Sony WH-1000XM5 as well as Bose QuietComfort. The PX7 S2 is the latest version that takes the original headphones up a notch with improved ANC performance and a fresh design.

In the earcups, 40mm bio cellulose drivers are bent to point straight at your eardrums, delivering an audio experience that is more intimate than many other closed-back headphones can manage. For most listeners, though the most important change is the improved noise cancellation and audio performance. In our tests, we were able to remove nearly all simulations of aircraft noises using the PX7 S2. They also excelled in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus, which demonstrate excellent insight into the changing dynamics between the solo vocalist, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

In addition to improved ANC, the PX7 S2s include a range of other features that make them very comparable with other top-rated noise cancelling headphones. They're wireless and have Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, which means you can connect two devices at once They also have a built-in microphone that allows hands-free calling using your phone's assistant. The construction is sturdy and premium which means they'll last for a long time.

Of course they're not the perfect models. The clamp force we used on our test models was a bit tighter than we'd prefer, and there aren't as many extra features on the app as other options, but these aren't major complaints. The PX7 S2s is an excellent wireless headset that is able to compete with other competitors in its class. It's hard to imagine a rival beating them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who prize high fidelity and are looking for an exceptional wireless noise-canceling headset The Focal Bathys are tough to beat. They're the French audio company's first ANC headphones that utilize Bluetooth and they offer incredible audio quality in both Bluetooth mode and when connected to a device via USB for hi-fi audio at up to 24 bits/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external audio with its closed ear cups).

The Bathys look gorgeous with their sleek black finish and swooping curves reminiscent of Focal's premium open-back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. They also feature premium materials like aluminum and magnesium for a robust build that is comfortable, solid, and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode, the Bathys offer a clear and lively sound signature that easily beats similar priced consumer ANC options such as the Bose QC45. They can be enhanced further by using direct DAC audio mode, making them a bona fide option for serious hi-fi enthusiasts.

Utilizing the Focal and Naim application users can change the playback controls of their headphones as well as the virtual assistant and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app allows users to choose between quiet and soft intensities for ANC. They can also adjust the brightness of the LEDs on the earcups of the headphones, and alter the EQ settings. The app is bare-bones, but it offers enough features to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only flaw is the active noise cancellation, which doesn't measure up to the competition. The headphone does not eliminate all background noise as effectively as the highly rated XM5 and AirPods Max. The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones blutooth. Their earcups don't fold up and they weigh a bit more than the competition, meaning they're not the best choice for traveling. The Bathys are best used at home for long listening sessions or as an example headset for audio engineering. Despite their size and weight, the Bathys are actually comfortable to wear for extended durations of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are a good pair of wireless over ear headphones for the money. The noise-cancelling technology is excellent and can do a lot to cut down ambient noise. They are ideal for commuters and travelers. Their matte finish and durable construction add a touch of luxury.

They have a similar design to Sony's newer 1000X and blutooth headphones XB910N headphones. They feature a slim headband with the usual ear cup hinges, and a durable plastic build. They're light and comfortable, but they feel a bit too compressed to my liking. In the box, they come with a USB-C port for charging, the 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means you can connect to two devices at the same time, if you wish.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did a fantastic job of reducing ambient noise. There were only a few glitches while walking around Waterloo Station and London Victoria. These weren't magical sound-silencers which blocked out every sound, however, and blutooth Headphones they struggled with lower frequency noises such as the rumbling engine noises of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and displayed a low harmonic distortion. I tried a range of different genres and found they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did a great job of controlling the bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix in focus.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to alter the CH720N's multipoint connectivity and ANC settings to suit your preferences. You can also add a variety of audio presets. You can also utilize the app to activate DSEE which can boost the quality of compressed content and enhances its sound quality.

While the WH-CH720N lacks some of Sony's primetime features when compared to the XM5 (such as Quick Attention and Speak-to-Chat) they do offer a robust set of features available for PS130. You can access 360 Reality Audio and a range of smart controls, as well as the aforementioned DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support I believe it would have been a welcomed inclusion.
