In this book, Darrow creates an interesting back story for Avon and emulates the bantering style of dialogue that Blake's 7 was known for pretty well, but unless are a fan of the show it's likely not for you. The story is centered around the relationship between Avon, Vila and their mutual respect and dislike of each other's cowardice and ruthlessness.

There are some truly captivating scenes as Avon is faced with the tough decisions to protect his team and shows his more gentle side. The characters have plenty of depth, and each one has a unique character that makes them seem real. This is a novel that you'll want to read more of. The writing is flawless and there is a real feel for the world that it is set. It's an amazing piece of writing by an author at her peak.
