The built-in buttons can be controlled using an app that comes with the headphones, however the options for customization are only limited. (Sorry there's no equalizer). The QC45s also come with a feature called Aware Mode which allows outside sounds be heard when using ANC which is useful for those who want to hear kids and traffic when they are out and out and about.

The audio quality of the headphones isn't as great as that of the WH-1000XM5s but it's still quite good. The bass isn’t pounding but it does provide a decent amount of volume and depth. The highs and mids are well-rounded and there's not a hint of harshness or shrillness.

The QC45s are known to prefer higher frequencies. This can cause some slight sibilance when listening to certain songs. It's not a huge issue and can be easily corrected in software by adjusting the headphone settings.

The controls are easy to use and simple to use. A button on the left ear cup powers the headphones on and off, controls music playback, as well as the Bluetooth pairing.
