Another excellent feature is Carpet Boost, which gives the S9 an extra suction force when it comes into contact with carpeting, to collect even more dirt and debris. The unit is an open-front design that allows it to get closer to corners and walls than previous round designs. This model is not compatible well with high-pile or shag carpeting.

During our testing we discovered that the iRobot S9+ cleans thoroughly and efficiently on a variety of flooring surfaces, ranging from medium-pile to hard carpets and rugs. It also worked well with laminate flooring, and vinyl flooring. It also did a great job of navigating around objects and furniture, although it struggled a bit with stairs, where it can crash into objects like bookcases.

We loved the fact that the S9 automatically returns to its base to empty its dust bin when it's empty, which dramatically reduces hands-on maintenance needs. The dust bag will last for about 30 loads or a month and half. It's recommended to replace the filter every few months (as suggested by iRobot). The iRobot S9+ is not very loud when it's in use making it a great choice for families with pets or children.

Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Designed to eliminate one of the most tedious tasks off your shoulders, robot vacuum cleaners do all the work to get hardwood and carpeted floors free of everyday dirt. Some robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled using a smartphone application, while others come with Mopping Robot Vacuum Cleaner technology to kitchen and bathroom flooring. They are a great option for busy families and they are becoming more affordable. However, if you want the latest features in your robotic cleaner, you're going to have to spend a bit more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a great choice for those living in multi-floored apartments. Dual motors provide it with an impressive cleaning capacity and the 0.6l dust bin can hold a lot of pet hair. The dustbin can be easily removed and empty which is great as you'll be required to do this regularly.

It's also easy to set it up, though I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the first time. You'll need to install the Eufy Home app and follow the instructions for connecting it to your Wi-Fi network. After you've completed this, the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can label rooms and divide large spaces into smaller rooms (good for open plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that need cleaning at a given time. Other robots also have similar mapping and scanning functions, but Eufy's app is more refined and user-friendly than others.

The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can activate the vacuum cleaner or mop by voice thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot even more hands-free. It also works well in our test home.

Like other robotic vacuums, the X8 Hybrid has some issues with floors that are bare. It can be unable to see pet hair or small items, and it tends to hit things - such as its own charger at the base for charging. It's also not as quiet as some other models we've tried, and the whirring noise can be distracting.

Roborock V3S pro

This robot isn't as feature-rich as some of the more expensive models we've tested however, it does have all the essentials. It has a large enough dust bin that can hold plenty of dirt until it's time to empty it and its mop and vacuum combo robot and vacuum system is great for hard floors and low-pile carpets. It's also extremely quiet. We were able watch television while it was cleaning without feeling like we were bombarded with noise.

Our testers loved how easy it was to install and use, and they were impressed with its ability to clean all the messes off their flooring. It was effective in picking up pet hair, messes, and carpeting however it was a bit more difficult at removing stubborn stains. The app was simple to use and intuitive. It was able to schedule the vacuum to clean frequently to minimize the amount of manual work. The only downside is that it does not have any mapping technology or object avoidance technology, so you can't direct it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips work).

Another model from the iRobot's budget line, the V3S Pro has some impressive features for the money. It was the top robot vacuum in our tests for navigating and avoiding obstacles. It's also a great budget option for those looking for a smarter, mopping robot vacuum cleaner self-emptying robotic vacuum that can take care of hair and pet messes on floors made of hardwood or low-pile carpeting. It is also very quiet and has a large dust bin that can hold a lot before it's time to empty it.

The V3S Pro did not make it onto our top choice lists of trusted sources who test hands-on, but it was praised by Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. The V3S Pro was simple to use and set up, but the battery life was not long.

The base is sturdy and robust and has a charging port integrated for the battery. You'll find the docking station for the clean-water tank as well as the bins for dirty water on top. You'll also find a panel beneath the dock, which houses an enclosed vacuum bag.

After you have connected your device to the application, you'll see a 3D and 2D map of your house that will show you where your robot is located at any time and what area it is cleaning. You can also create virtual barriers to keep the robot out of certain areas and make sure that it's only cleaning certain kinds of floors.
